Stephen Atkins (pictured) is a well known gospel
artist, who will be appearing live in Narrandera
this Thursday September 12th at the CRC
Church in Bolton Street.
Steve has been touring Australia for the past
seven years and has made more than 800
performances.
He is a singer/songwriter who writes about
topics close to the heart: love, relationships, the
beauty of this world, and the God who has made it.
He has produced CDs for Chris Gale of
Narrandera, Former newsreader Paula Anstey and
a children's album for Kids Group "Club Champ".
His dynamic presentation appeals to all ages
and features Steve on piano and guitar, as well as singing.
Backing tracks from his two albums add a depth and intensity to his message, and make the
whole experience hugely enjoyable. Steve is a gifted musician. People will enjoy the warmth of his
personality, the quality of the music, and be encouraged by the message. He last performed in
Narrandera three years ago and people still remember how much they enjoyed the evening.
There will be no admission cost for the concert, but an offering will be taken during the night.

There is no doubt that music plays a large part in the daily life of most Australians.
It’s not that we are prone to bursting into song at the drop of a hat, but many of us do have quite a sum of money invested in sound equipment, tapes, CDs and even vinyl.

Everyone from advertisers to churches knows that music affects the emotions, and can have a positive or negative influence on us.

One man who sees his music as containing a message of hope to society today is Stephen Atkins, of Penguin, on the North-West Coast.

He graduated from the
University of  Tasmania with a degree in music, majoring in piano and composition, and for the past four years has been writing and per-forming full-time.

As preparation for his own stage career, Atkins has supported well-known Australian Artists Steve Grace and Peter Shurley, and now tours with his own five-piece band, which includes his wife of four months, Tina.

Atkins describes his music as pop in the style of current hits, and not too heavy, similar to Savage Garden.
In fact he says his music appeals to a wide age range. If their kids agree, parents who bring them to a concert should stay as they will most probably enjoy and be challenged by the programme too.

"
A number of people have committed their lives to Christ at our concerts over the years," says Atkins, who has performed more than 350 times since going full-time.

He hopes that everyone who hears his music will think about the issues of life and the Christian faith.

In fact, a number of listeners have reported that his music has been a catalyst in preventing them from attempting suicide.
"I remember one incident, when a young girl came up to me after

albums and decided against suicide. At that point she was seriously considering her relationship with God."
International recording artist Peter Shurley said that Steve Atkins was a man with a passion for

a concert and told me she was seriously considering suicide, "Atkins said.

"She came along to an outreach we were doing
and a song called Someone
To Love stuck in her mind.
"She bought one of my

people and deep hunger for God.
"In concert, he communicates with integrity, confidence and polish. I highly recommend his ministry."

Atkins's debut CD, Love Never Fails, was released in 1996 and went on to receive excellent sales and both national and international airplay.

His latest album, Beyond The Stars, features a number of real themes that relate to real people.

The title track Stars is a plea for people to put their trust not in the stars themselves but in the one who created them.

This album was recorded in Penguin by Peter Shurley, and Atkins is on the verge of signing a record deal with Spoon Records in Victoria, who also want to see his music minister to people.

It is also the title of his Tasmanian tour, and in Launceston the band will be playing at Memorial Baptist Church, Wellington St, on Friday, September 3, at 7.30pm.

Stephen Atkins and his band will also be performing in schools before this concert.

As well as the excellent music the concert will have a lot of visual appeal. The space theme is carried through into the set, and stage lighting and adds to the whole experience of the night.

In 1997, Atkins became the first Tasmanian (possibly Australian) musician to be broadcast live on the World Wide Web.

Some 2000 people attended the concert and 400 accessed it live from every conceivable country around the globe.
During the following week, the site received around 10,000 hits.'

"Our prayer is that Beyond The Stars will be used by God to change people's lives," says Atkins.

Tickets for the Launceston concert are $5 (suggested donation) from the CMS bookstore, Clear Directions, and at the door.

The CD is available from Christian bookstores State wide or by contacting Stephen Atkins Music Ministries.
